The 2017 Christmas special of Doctor Who comes as a farewell for both showrunner Steven Moffat and Twelfth Doctor Peter Capaldi, shifting creative direction to Chris Chibnall. A regeneration for Twelve is expected in this Christmas special, as well as a first look at the highly anticipated Thirteenth Doctor – Jodie Whittaker – who sparked controversy among fans after the July 16th announcement due to her being the first woman to portray the Doctor. We’re very excited to welcome Jodie as the Thirteenth Doctor, and it’s looking like this Christmas special will be the perfect introduction.
The Twelfth Doctor (Capaldi) will join forces with his former self, the First Doctor (David Bradley) along with companion Bill Potts (Pearl Mackie) for this final installation of Twelve’s journey. According to a synopsis released by the BBC:
“An uplifting tale about the power of hope in humanity’s darkest hours, Twice Upon A Time marks the end of an era. But as the Doctor must face his past to decide his future, his journey is only just the beginning…”
We’ll be eagerly tuning in this Christmas to see just how the Twelfth Doctor’s last adventure will unfold.
