Michigan Entertainment News – 12/29/17

In an attempt to dodge the eye of the paparazzi, celebs have found much-needed sanctuary on Mackinac Island, MI!

The island allows you to disappear into the scenery of a picturesque place that doesn’t allow cars, forcing you to arrive by boat or plane. Transportation on the island is limited to horse and buggy, bicycle, or foot, and the population officially stands at a whopping 492 residents. Home to the world’s largest porch – 660 ft, to be exact – Mackinac Island is one of the most beautiful places in America and is very reminiscent of Catalina Island.

“Movie stars will often call and make a reservation using a different name. Sometimes, for instance, they’ll use a name similar to theirs but slightly different,” said Brian Bailey, Manager at the Chippewa Hotel Waterfront.

Some entertainers who have hidden out on Mackinac Island (pronounced Mack-In-NAW) include Vince Vaughn, Kid Rock, rapper Ice-T and his wife, Coco (who enjoyed the Labor Day Jazz Weekend and the island’s famous Grand Hotel), actor and director Ron Howard (who registered under his wife’s maiden name), and Michigan’s own Bob Seger.

In concert news, Grammy Award-Winner Shakira is postponing the U.S. and European legs of her El Dorado World Tour due to a vocal cord hemorrhage. The tour will not kick off on June 5 in Cologne, Germany.

Shakira’s most recent message, which was posted in Spanish and English on Facebook, is below:

“To my dear fans and friends,

I wanted to write one more letter to express my gratitude to all of you for the immeasurable love and support that you have sent me these past few weeks. You have made me feel that my voice is not only mine but also yours, and that it has a purpose.

There were times when your prayers and messages of affection and encouragement along with those of my family were the only thing buoying my spirits.

Though I very much hoped my vocal cords would recover in time to pick the tour back up in January, and after exploring many options to that effect, I have accepted that this is an injury that simply needs more time and care to heal.

I feel for all of you who planned ahead to come to these shows and who have been so patient as I took the time needed to figure out the best course of action with my doctors.

Thankfully, I am so relieved and happy to share with you that I will be getting back on the road in June 2018 with my El Dorado World Tour in Europe, and the US, with Latin America dates to be announced soon.

I am very proud of this show; I feel it’s my best yet, since it has a repertoire filled with heartfelt songs and exciting moments of music and dance. I really can’t wait for June!

I promise to give you all of me and more from the minute I get on that stage and I am counting the days till showtime!

All my love
