SoCal musical theatre star Robert Yacko drops in on Michael and Andrew to converse about Opening Doors his solo concert debut at Sterling’s Upstairs at The Federal on Sunday, October 29. Robert starred in the Los Angeles Premieres of Sondheim’s Sunday in the Park with George and Chess, the West Coast Premieres of Legacy of Light and Romance, Romance, and debuted a Bernstein aria never heard before in performance in The Bernstein Peter Pan. He also appeared in the celebrated Jason Robert Brown/Alfred Uhry opus Parade at the Mark Taper Forum. His 2017 Sondheim concert performances include the roles of Ben in Follies and Fredrik in A Little Night Music. His solo concert act will celebrate the music of several different composers and lyricists as he recounts his own career and experiences in the theatre.
Director Mark Blanchard also joins the panel to talk about his hit dramedy The Dreamer Examines His Pillow now playing at the Hollywood’s Hudson Mainstage Theatre through October 29. A striking, surreal study of the often-bizarre byways that love between men and women can follow, the story is told in three related scenes, and uses indirection and richly evocative language to make its unsettling but ultimately illuminating points. The Dreamer Examines His Pillow is a philosophic dream-comedy full of rich symbolism, magical realism, emotional intensity about love, marriage and maturity.
