Michael and Andrew take the week off as (former) co-host Paul Stroili continues our regional spotlight series chatting with Guy Sanville, the Artistic Director of The Purple Rose Theatre founded by Jeff Daniels.
Founded in 1991 by acclaimed actor and Chelsea native Jeff Daniels, The Purple Rose Theatre Company is a creative home for theatre artists to define a collective Midwestern voice. It is a place for emerging talent and seasoned professionals to learn more about and to practice their craft; a place for patrons of the arts to laugh, cry, and perhaps even learn something new.
Today, audiences travel as far as 90 miles or more to enjoy quality, professional productions at affordable ticket prices in historic downtown Chelsea. PRTC continue to actively promote the development of new American theatre and its practitioners. They also strive to provide valuable educational opportunities not available elsewhere, and earn the respect of the national theatre community as well as our neighbors right here in southeast Michigan.
Guy Sanville is a professional actor, director and teacher. He celebrated his 21th anniversary as Artistic Director last May. He has directed over 50 plays for the PRTC, including 39 world premieres. In addition, he teaches workshops and lectures at the Purple Rose and around the country. He is a proud member of Actors’ Equity Association, SAG/AFTRA, and the Stage Directors and Choreographers Society. He is honored to serve on the Board of Directors for the Chelsea Downtown Development Authority. He resides in Chelsea with his wife, Nancee, daughter, Rose, and amazing dog, Peaches.
